Barbara practices all phases of family law, from adoptions to contested dissolutions and custody disputes, both pre-decree and post-decree. Additionally, Barbara has acted as Guardian ad Litem and Expert Custody Evaluator, advocating for the best interest of children in juvenile and family courts. Dakota County Judges have appointed her as Guardian ad Litem in particularly difficult cases. She has assisted with the training of other guardians, and she has fulfilled the educational requirements necessary to serve as a mediator, custody evaluator, and parenting time expeditor.
Barbara's practice also includes representation of small businesses and individuals in general contract and litigation matters, probate and estate planning and residential real estate transactions. She has successfully briefed and argued a number of cases at the Minnesota Court of Appeals.
Barbara is a 1988 cum laude graduate of William Mitchell College of Law, where she served as a member of the William Mitchell Law Review. She worked as intern for the Honorable Suzanne Sedgewick, Judge, Minnesota Court of Appeals. She was an associate at a mid-sized firm in St. Paul prior to forming her own firm in 1992. In 1997, she and Tom Lehmann formed the firm of Lehmann & Lutter, P.A.
Barbara grew up in northeastern Wyoming. She graduated summa cum laude from Macalester College in 1981, where she majored in English and History and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. As a Macalester student, she published a scholarly article in the publication "Notes on American Literature;" and also interned as a Production Assistant with the television show, "Charlie's Angels" during its final season.
Today, in addition to her duties at Lehmann & Lutter, Barbara sits on the Board of Directors of Dakota County Legal Assistance.
